Brenda A. Adjei, M.P.A., Ed.D. is a Public Health Advisor/Program Director in the Office of the Associate Director of the Healthcare Delivery Research Program. Dr. Adjei currently serves as a Program Director for the Cancer Care Delivery Research component of the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), a consortium of seven Research Bases and 46 community oncology practices, hospitals, and integrated health systems to support NCI's clinical trials program and cancer care delivery research in community-based oncology practice.
Prior to joining HDRP in 2015, Dr. Adjei was a Program Director in NCI’s Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities Integrated Networks Program where she served as the director of the NCI’s National Outreach Network (NON). NON is a network of Community Health Educators (CHEs) within NCI funded cancer disparities outreach and research programs that seeks to build and sustain a platform for culturally tailored cancer education, outreach and research dissemination, particularly in diverse racial, ethnic, and underserved populations. In addition, Dr. Adjei was Co-Lead for the NCI Community Cancer Centers Program’s (NCCCP) Disparities Program, a network of up to 30 community-based cancer centers and health systems designed to enhance access to care, improve quality of care, and expand clinical research within community settings. In both of these roles, she provided scientific expertise and led programmatic initiatives that addressed health care disparities and the health care needs of at risk and underserved communities.
Dr. Adjei’s research and programmatic interests include cancer health disparities, behavioral oncology, community-based participatory research, as well as the evaluation, dissemination, and implementation of effective cancer prevention and control interventions across diverse populations and settings. In addition, her prior research experience includes addressing genetic testing participation among minority women, examining socio-cognitive and emotional factors related to cancer screening in ethnically diverse populations, and enhancing community capacity through the empowerment and training of hair stylists, community health workers, and community-based organizations cancer education advocates. Dr. Adjei received a B.S. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, an M.P.A. in Health Services Management from New York University, and an Ed.D. in health and behavioral science from Teachers College, Columbia University.
