Elisabeth Kato, MD, MRP is a Medical Officer in the Office of the Associate Director, Healthcare Delivery Research Program. She will be working with the NCORP team to advance the science of Cancer Care Delivery Research, with a focus on safety and adverse event monitoring on care delivery clinical trials.
Dr. Kato comes to NCI from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), where she served as Medical Officer in both the Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program and the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Division. In both programs, she oversaw systematic reviews to support guideline and policy development. Within the EPC program, she also developed a conceptual framework and database to track the impact of EPC reports and worked to improve evidence synthesis methods. As medical officer for the USPSTF, she oversaw the recommendation process and drafted recommendation statements and other materials.
Dr. Kato’s first career was in international development (Bachelor of Arts in political science/Asian studies, Masters of Regional Planning from Cornell University). After working in relief and development in Asia, she returned to the US to complete a medical degree at the University of Maryland. She then worked as Senior Medical Research Analyst with Hayes Inc. before joining the federal government.
