Courtney Williams, DrPH, is a Cancer Prevention Fellow in the Office of the Associate Director of the Healthcare Delivery Research Program. Courtney’s current research focuses on how to promote patient-centered care by focusing on issues related to financial hardship in older individuals living with cancer at the patient-, provider-, and policy-level. Specifically, she is interested in using econometric and epidemiologic methodologies to investigate effects of health insurance literacy, rurality, guideline-based care delivery, practice improvement efforts, health policy outcomes, and incorporation of patient preferences during treatment decision-making.
Courtney earned her DrPH in outcomes research from the Department of Health Care Organization & Policy and her MPH in epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health. During and prior to graduate school, Courtney worked as a health services research statistician in the UAB Medicine Divisions of Hematology & Oncology and Geriatrics, Gerontology, & Palliative Care. Courtney also holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Alabama.
