Sara Flores, PhD

Sara Flores, PhD, is a Cancer Prevention Fellow joining the Health Systems and Interventions Research Branch (HSIRB) of the Healthcare Delivery Research Program (HDRP).

Sara brings specialized training in systems thinking, social network analysis, and human-centered design, with research experience centered on adolescent and young adult healthcare access. During her postdoctoral fellowship, Sara will collaborate with her preceptors—Drs. Sallie Weaver and Rachelle Brick—to advance systems-informed approaches to cancer survivorship care continuity and coordination.

Sara earned a Bachelor of Science in Health from the University of Houston in May 2020 and is a former trainee of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Department of Behavioral Science. In May 2025, she earned her PhD in Health Education from the Texas A&M University School of Public Health, where she contributed to the research environment by organizing methodology workshops, mentoring peers and junior researchers, and fostering collaborative research initiatives. Her dissertation examined how young adult breast cancer survivors navigate social systems after completing active treatment, specifically how they navigate healthcare fragmentation while balancing their ongoing support needs with evolving relationship dynamics.
