SEER-Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (SEER-MHOS) Linked Data Resource
SEER-MHOS is a linked data resource for researching health outcomes in cancer. It is based on a linkage between the NCI's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER)
cancer registry and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (MHOS)
that provides information about the health-related quality of life (HRQOL), activities of daily living, and other health outcomes of Medicare Advantage Organization enrollees.
Announcements
The updated SEER-MHOS linkage is now available, offering data through 2023, expanded data sources, and new analytic possibilities.
CMS Research Data Request & Access Policy
Per a new NCI-CMS agreement, by March 1, 2027, access to SEER-CMS data will shift from physical files to a federally managed secure enclave. The final cost structure is under review, but users will pay a periodic, person-specific "seat" fee for enclave access to offset IT and software costs. No new cloud storage will be approved during this transition, except for existing NCI/CMS-approved Data Management Plans (DMP) SAQ. Stay tuned for further updates.
