SEER-Medicare: Changes in the 2022 Linkage
The 2022 SEER-Medicare linked data is very similar to the data from the 2020 linkage.
One new SEER registry will also be included in the 2022 linkage update: Texas. Although cancer cases diagnosed back to 2000 will be included in SEER-Medicare from this registry, because the registry collected the data prior to becoming a SEER registry, all variables included in the SEER File will not be available. For more details, view the SEER-Medicare Cancer File Data Dictionary (PDF, 2.1 MB).
One new file type is available: 30 Chronic Conditions file (2017 to 2019).
The encrypted values for some UPIN have changed. The new encrypted values retain the first character in the encrypted UPIN value. Similarly the encrypted values for some Hospital Provider numbers have changed. The new encrypted values retain the first two characters in the encrypted Provider value.
Other file types have some changes:
- DME, NCH (Carrier) – line segment has changed.
- HHA, Hospice and Outpatient – revenue segment has two new variables.
- MEDPAR – has two new variables.
- OASIS, Part D MTM and MD-PPAS formats have changed.
